Palentine Lantern Pendant

The Palentine Lantern Pendant is a hexagonal lantern fabricated from brass with fan and lattice cut-out panels. The openwork is cut into the brass sheet before the frame is welded, so the pattern is part of the structure rather than an applied overlay, and it reads as openwork from every angle rather than only the front. The lantern hangs from a chain, takes candelabra lamps, and is offered in six finishes: Standard Paint, Polished Brass, Satin Brass, Aged Brass Patina, Antique Bronze Patina, and Oil-Rubbed Bronze Patina. The product photo shows one finish; the others are the same fabricated form, finished differently.

Two sizes are available. Small is the piece for hallways, stair landings, and smaller rooms; Large is sized for bigger rooms and longer sight lines. Each size ships with the chain length listed in its dimensions, and the chain hangs from the mounting hardware that is included, so the lantern drops from a standard ceiling box. The lamping can be ordered as socketed - candelabra base, lamps not included - or as an integral 3000K LED source so the lantern runs without purchasing bulbs. Candelabra lamps are the small, slim format, which suits this body: the openwork panels let you see the lamp from the side, so the slim profile is the right choice for the form.

An earlier version of this page called the form clean and geometric, which understates the actual fixture: the fan and lattice cut-outs around the hexagonal body are the defining feature, and the openwork throws a patterned light against the walls when the fixture is lit. Manufacturing

Each Palentine Lantern Pendant is made in our Floyd, Virginia workshop. The fan and lattice patterns are cut from brass sheet, the panels are formed into the hexagonal frame, and the frame is welded to specification. The body is then hand-polished or hand-satined depending on the selected finish, patinated where the finish specification calls for it, and sealed with a clear lacquer coat. The chain, canopy, and electrical assembly are fitted, and the fixture is tested on the line before it ships.
