Lillie Carroll Jackson Museum
The Lillie Carroll Jackson Museum in Baltimore, Maryland, stands as a poignant tribute to the legacy of Lillie Carroll Jackson, a pioneering civil rights activist of the mid-20th century, with her historic home transformed into a museum in 1976 to honor both her life and the broader civil rights movement in the United States. Closed for repairs in the late 1990s while funds were raised to restore the century-old structure, the museum underwent a meticulous renovation led by architect Gant Brunnett Architects, where Crenshaw Lighting stepped in during 2011 to restore and replicate the original fixtures that adorned the house during Jackson’s era, restoring twenty fixtures, replicating four types, and crafting one new custom exterior bracket sconce. Among the standout achievements is the restored centerpiece crystal chandelier in the drawing room, an exquisitely detailed fixture crafted from high-quality cast brass plated in 18-karat gold, embodying the elegance and historical significance of the space. This exemplary restoration effort earned the prestigious 2012 Baltimore Heritage Restoration Award, celebrating Crenshaw’s dedication to preserving this cultural landmark in collaboration with Gant Brunnett Architects.
