Mills Lantern Sconce

The Mills Lantern Sconce is a traditional lantern form: a frosted opal glass cylinder set in a fabricated frame with a domed cap and pointed finials, mounted on a scrolled, lobed backplate with a curved arm. The frame is fabricated from painted metal members and is offered in Polished Brass, Satin Brass, Aged Brass, Antique Bronze, and Oil Rubbed Bronze finishes. The frosted glass shade softens the candelabra lamp, and the scrolled arm and backplate are formed and finished by hand, the kind of traditional detail die-cast fixtures can't carry.

Each Mills Lantern Sconce is built in our Floyd, Virginia workshop. The frame members, cap, finials, and scrolled backplate are fabricated from individual metal pieces that are precision-cut, formed, and welded to specification, then the glass shade is fitted and seated. All components are hand-finished for the selected finish and sealed with clear lacquer. The fixture is electrically assembled to UL standards and tested before shipping.

Manufacturing Process

Each Mills Lantern Sconce is fabricated in our Floyd, Virginia workshop. Metal sheet and bar stock is cut to pattern using precision shearing, then bent and formed using traditional metalworking techniques; the scrollwork on the backplate and arm requires careful forming before welding. The cap and finials are aligned and joined, then the glass shade is fitted. Each component is hand-finished, polished, satined, or patinated for the selected finish, then sealed with clear lacquer. The fixture is electrically assembled, tested, and packed for shipping.
