The Lignum Sconce is cast from brass in an organic inverted heart form inspired by black walnut. The design process begins with a black walnut blank cut to shape, sandblasted to raise the grain, then used to produce the casting mold. The main body is approximately one-quarter inch thick cast brass. Machined brass components and formed sheet brass complete the assembly. The vertical slit at the center allows inset LEDs to cast a fan pattern of light upward on the wall and a soft glow on the sides.

Manufacturing Process
Each Lignum Sconce originates from a black walnut pattern piece that is hand-cut to an inverted heart shape and sandblasted to raise the grain. This pattern is used to produce the casting mold. The main body is cast from brass at approximately one-quarter inch thickness. Machined brass components are turned and formed from solid brass bar stock. Sheet brass is used for the back plate. The vertical center slit is precision-formed to allow inset LEDs to project a fan pattern upward and a soft glow outward. All brass components are hand-finished with patina application where specified, then sealed with clear lacquer. The fixture is electrically assembled to UL standards and tested before shipping.
