Gilman Sconce

The Gilman Sconce is a single-light traditional wall fixture: one curved fluted arm with a spiral scroll rises from a round backplate and carries a single white opal glass bowl shade. The arm, scroll, and backplate are fabricated from painted metal and are offered in Polished Brass, Satin Brass, Aged Brass Patina, Antique Bronze Patina, and Oil-Rubbed Bronze Patina finishes. The fluting and scroll are formed by hand, the kind of traditional detail die-cast fixtures can't carry, and the opal glass shade softens the single lamp into a warm pool of light.

Each Gilman Sconce is built in our Floyd, Virginia workshop. The arm and backplate are fabricated from individual metal members that are precision-cut, formed, and welded to specification, then the glass shade is fitted and seated. All components are hand-finished for the selected finish and sealed with clear lacquer. The fixture is electrically assembled to UL standards and tested before shipping.

Manufacturing Process

Each Gilman Sconce is fabricated in our Floyd, Virginia workshop. Metal bar and sheet stock is cut to pattern, then bent and formed using traditional metalworking techniques to produce the fluted arm and spiral scroll; the forming and alignment are done by hand at every step. The backplate is welded in position, the glass shade is fitted, and each component is hand-finished, polished, satined, or patinated for the selected finish, then sealed with clear lacquer. The fixture is electrically assembled, tested, and packed for shipping.
