Fountain’s Abbey Lantern Pendant

The Fountain's Abbey Lantern Pendant is a fabricated multi-faceted Gothic-arch lantern. The body is covered in intricate floral cut-out tracery in the Gothic and Moorish tradition, not a generic geometric lantern. It is built from fabricated brass and offered in six finishes: Polished Brass, Satin Brass, Aged Brass Patina, Antique Bronze Patina, Oil-Rubbed Bronze Patina, and Standard Paint. The photo shows a bronze patina finish with copper tones. Where mass-produced lanterns are die-cast or stamped in one shot, the Abbey lantern is fabricated panel by panel from brass, and the tracery is cut into the body itself, so the ornament is structure, not something applied. The multi-faceted body catches the light differently from every angle, so the lantern changes as you move through the room.

We have been fabricating lighting in Floyd, Virginia since 1957. Each Abbey lantern is made the way we have always done our fabrication: brass cut and formed to specification, the detail cut in-house, and finished one fixture at a time in our Floyd, Virginia workshop. The brass finishes — polished, satin, and the three patinas — are all hand-applied and lacquer-sealed; Standard Paint is for buyers who want the Abbey form in a solid color. It takes standard medium-base lamps, or it can be specified with the integral 3000K LED, and the damp rating makes it usable on covered porches as well as in interiors. At six lamps per size, it works as the primary light for a dining room or a long staircase.

Manufacturing Process

Each Fountain's Abbey Lantern Pendant is fabricated from brass in our Floyd, Virginia workshop. The body panels are cut and formed to specification, the floral tracery is cut into place, and the fixture is individually hand-polished or satined, patinated where specified, and sealed with clear lacquer. The tracery is the time-consuming part: each opening is cut individually, which is why the pattern stays sharp at the edges instead of the soft edges a die-cast part gets. Then the fixture is electrically assembled and tested. The fabricated construction is what gives the lantern its structural integrity, something die-cast alternatives can't match.
