Fountain’s Abbey Ceiling Drum

The Fountain's Abbey Ceiling Drum is a flush-mount fixture with an openwork Gothic-arch body: interlocking ring tracery around the perimeter and pointed drops between the rings. It is built from fabricated brass and offered in six finishes: Polished Brass, Satin Brass, Aged Brass Patina, Antique Bronze Patina, Oil-Rubbed Bronze Patina, and Standard Paint. Most ceiling drums at this price are stamped sheet with a pattern painted on or applied, but the Abbey drum's tracery is cut into the brass body itself, so the openwork stays sharp instead of filling in or flaking over time. The white acrylic lens spreads the light evenly under the drum, and at six to seven and a half inches tall the profile stays low enough for lower ceilings.

We have been fabricating lighting in Floyd, Virginia since 1957. The Abbey collection takes its forms from Gothic and Moorish architectural ornament, and the ceiling drum shares that design language with the Abbey pendant and sconce, so a hallway, a dining room, and an entry can all carry the same character. Each drum is made the way we have always done our fabrication: brass cut and formed to specification, and finished one fixture at a time in our Floyd, Virginia workshop. It takes standard medium-base lamps or the integral 3000K LED, and the damp rating covers covered porches and other damp locations. Both sizes carry the same tracery pattern, scaled to the body, so the drum matches a sconce or pendant elsewhere in the house.

Manufacturing Process

Each Fountain's Abbey Ceiling Drum is fabricated from brass in our Floyd, Virginia workshop. The openwork body is cut and formed to specification, the interlocking ring tracery and pointed drops are cut into place, and the fixture is individually hand-polished or satined, patinated where specified, and sealed with clear lacquer. The tracery is the slow part: each opening is cut individually, which is why the pattern stays sharp at the edges instead of the soft edges a die-cast part gets. Then the fixture is electrically assembled and tested.
