The Drumcliff Wall Sconce is a traditional cup or torchere sconce built from rolled and welded brass. The cup is pierced with openwork cut-outs, and a ring of pointed rim finials trims the lip, so the lit candelabra lamp shows through the openwork rather than behind a solid shade. It is offered in five finishes: Polished Brass, Satin Brass, Aged Brass Patina, Antique Bronze Patina, and Oil-Rubbed Bronze Patina. The product photo shows one finish; the others are the same rolled and welded cup, finished differently.

We have corrected the construction description on this page. An earlier version claimed the sconce carries the same cast bead applique as the Drumcliff Ceiling Bowl, which is a line that carried over from the bowl copy. This sconce's cup shows no bead applique; what it has is the pierced openwork and the pointed finial ring around the rim, and that is what is described here.

The sconce takes a single 60W candelabra lamp, lamp not included, and is wired for one circuit at 120V. The backplate sits flat on the wall and the body projects from it by the 5" depth listed in the dimensions. The lens is available in white opal glass or frosted clear glass: the opal version softens the light, and the frosted clear version passes more of it. Because the body is rolled and welded brass, the fixture has real mass, which is why the installation notes below call for professional installation.

All five finishes share the same fabrication. Polished Brass is mirror-bright, Satin Brass is abraded to a matte low-gloss surface, and the three patina finishes start on a satin base before a chemical patina is applied by hand to the specified tone, then sealed under clear lacquer.

Manufacturing

Each Drumcliff Wall Sconce is built in our Floyd, Virginia workshop. The backplate and cup are rolled from brass sheet and welded at the seams; the pierced openwork is cut into the cup; and the pointed rim finials are set around the lip. The brass is hand-polished or hand-satined depending on the selected finish, patinated where the finish specification calls for it, and sealed with a clear lacquer coat. The electrical assembly and glass lens are fitted, and the fixture is tested on the line before it ships.
