Drumcliff Ceiling Bowl

The Drumcliff Ceiling Bowl is a flat flush bowl built entirely from formed brass. The body is rolled and welded from brass sheet, a cast bead applique runs around the side, and the bottom of the bowl holds slumped art glass. It is offered in five finishes: Polished Brass, Satin Brass, Aged Brass Patina, Antique Bronze Patina, and Oil-Rubbed Bronze Patina. The product photo shows one finish; the others are the same rolled and welded bowl, finished differently.

We have corrected this page to describe the fixture as it actually is. An earlier version of the copy described pendant hardware on this fixture - the cut-and-rolled arms, staves, and beaded machined stems - that a flat flush bowl does not have: the Drumcliff Ceiling Bowl has no stems, arms, or staves. It mounts flat under the ceiling with nothing dropping below it, and the bowl, the bead applique, and the glass are the whole fixture.

Two sizes are available. The lamping can be ordered with medium-base lamp sockets, lamps not included, or with an integral 3000K LED source so the bowl runs without purchasing bulbs.

The five finishes share the same fabrication; only the surface treatment changes. Polished Brass is mirror-bright, Satin Brass is abraded to a matte low-gloss surface, and the three patina finishes start on a satin base before a chemical patina is applied by hand to the specified tone, then sealed under clear lacquer.

Because the bowl sits flat under the ceiling, looking up you see the rim, the bead applique, and the glass at the bottom, and the white opal lens keeps the light coming out of the opening soft rather than bare. The form suits rooms where you want an uplight wash on the ceiling instead of a directed source.

Manufacturing

Each Drumcliff Ceiling Bowl is built in our Floyd, Virginia workshop. The brass sheet is rolled to the bowl profile and welded at the seam; the cast bead applique is fitted and secured around the side; and the slumped art glass is set into the bottom. The brass is hand-polished or hand-satined depending on the selected finish, patinated where the finish specification calls for it, and sealed with a clear lacquer coat. The electrical assembly is fitted, and the fixture is tested on the line before it ships.
