Chartwell Ceiling Drum

The Chartwell Ceiling Drum is a flush-mount ceiling fixture fabricated from brass in our Floyd, Virginia workshop. The 'drum' name is a misnomer: the fixture is round, not a flat-sided cylinder. A hemispherical frosted glass globe sits under a traditional openwork scroll band made of interlocking circles, and the whole assembly mounts flush to the ceiling. The frosted globe diffuses the light evenly, keeping the glow soft on the ceiling above and the room below. The earlier copy described 'clean geometric lines' and a white acrylic lens; neither matches the fixture, and both have been corrected here.

Fabricated brass is the point of the fixture. The scroll band and the housing are formed and cut from brass to pattern rather than die-cast, so the interlocking-circle openwork is individually made and fitted, and the globe seats cleanly into the band. A fabricated body can be corrected during fabrication and repaired for decades afterwards.

The fixture is offered in five finishes: Polished Brass, Satin Brass, Aged Brass Patina, Antique Bronze Patina, and Oil-Rubbed Bronze Patina. The photo shows one finish; each unit is hand-finished to the finish you specify.

The body is fabricated to specification in our Floyd, Virginia workshop. Brass sheet is formed into the housing, the openwork scroll band is cut to pattern and fitted, and the frosted glass globe is seated. Each fixture is individually hand-polished or satined, patinated where the finish calls for it, and sealed with clear lacquer. Electrical assembly and testing are done on the bench before the fixture leaves the shop.

• Professional installation is recommended. Mounting hardware and detailed instructions are included. As a flush-mount fixture, the Chartwell sits directly against the ceiling and suits hallways, landings, and rooms where a hanging fixture would drop too low.
